In June 2018, the US Supreme Court ruled that public sector unions may not force state government workers to pay dues, or “fair share” fees, to be used to support collective bargaining and other union activities. However, thousands of teachers and public workers are unaware of this ruling. PA State Representative Kate Klunk has sponsored HB 785 which simply guarantees that public sector employees are made aware that they have a choice as to their participation. Employee rights notification would give teachers and public workers the facts and ensure they can make an informed choice.
HB 785 would ensure Pennsylvania’s government workers are notified of their rights and correct unconstitutional state laws.
This legislation may not move easily through the legislature so please consider asking your representative to support HB 785.
